Holbrook Youth Football Joins New Area LeagueApril 8th, 2009
Holbrook Youth Football has left AHMYF and has formed an entirely new league with Snowflake, Show Low, Pinteop-Lakeside, Payson, Winslow and Round Valley. The name of this new league is Northeastern Arizona Youth Football League (NAYFL). Football teams will no longer be divided by weight and age, but by grades, forming the Mighty Mites, first through second grade (plus kindergarteners who are 6 years old by Aug. 1); the Juniors, third and fourth grades; and the Minors, fifth and sixth grades. They will all travel together and all play the same town on the same day, so families with children on different teams won’t be separated. Also the season is almost an entire month shorter, and is set to begin Aug. 3 and end Oct. 31. Pre-registration will be held from 12 noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 11, at the Easter Egg Hunt at Hunt Park in Holbrook, and from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Friday, April 17, at the elementary gym in Joseph City. Save your spot for only $15 down. If you pay the balance before June 1 you will get a 10 percent discount. After July 1 the fee will be $75 per player or cheerleader. If you haven’t returned your equipment from last season, please drop off at the library from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 14. The Holbrook Youth Football Board of Directors for the 2009 season includes President Shawn Maestas, Vice President Kevin Smithson, Cheer Commissioner Jme Baloo, Secretary Summer Wills, Treasurer Brian Snell, Fundraising Director Donna Anaya, Web Designer/Developer Phillip Wills, Equipment Managers Chade Chase and Scott Ferrin, and member Val Hartup. Upcoming events for HYFL include the annual softball tournament, adult flag football tournament and the annual Holbrook Spirit Camp.
