Winslow Golf Team Takes Third In Unique TourneyApril 10th, 2009
By Sam Conner The Winslow High School golf team played in a unique tournament at Snowflake on Saturday, and finished third among the five teams competing. The event was called the Schneider’s Cup match and was won by Snowflake with a low score of 215. Blue Ridge was second at 238, followed by Winslow at 247, Show Low, 270, and Holbrook, 280. For the unique event, each school formed six players into three two-player teams. Each team then played 18 holes divided into three different kinds of play and scoring of six holes each. The first six holes were played as a scramble. The second six holes were played with the two players alternating shots and the last six as a best ball competition. The Winslow team scores were Kalup Bahe and Albert Sanchez, 23, 28 and 29 for a 79, David Aberle and R.C. Brown, 26, 27 and 27 for an 80, and Levyn Ben and Patrick Lomeli, 26, 34 and 38 for an 88.
