Lobos Beat Alchesay, Lose To Show LowApril 29th, 2009
By Greg Perkins The Snowflake Lobos kept their conference record even at 4-4 with a win and a loss in their two region games played last week. Hosting Alchesay on Tuesday, the Lobos broke out of the gates with a huge first inning, scoring 16 runs in the bottom of the first to leave little doubt as to the outcome. They added two in the second, and one each in the third and fourth innings before ending the game ahead 20-0 after five innings. Snowflake pounded out 28 hits and made no errors. Despite the 20 runs, they still left seven on base. Several players had big games for Snowflake. Kyle Larson went five for five at the plate, with a triple, a double, two runs scored and two RBIs. Brad Hutson was three for four with two runs scored and a pair of RBIs. Trevor Reddick went four for four with three runs scored and three RBIs. Travis Reddick was three for four with three runs scored and two RBIs. Shawn Walker went two for four with a sacrifice, four RBIs and scored once. Robby Martindale was three for five with a sacrifice, three RBIs and scored twice. Josh Pawlik went three for four with a double and scored three times. Tarrin Tanner went two for five with two RBIs and scored once. Blake Peterson was three for four with an RBI and scored three runs. On the hill, Pawlik earned the start and the win, working just two innings where he gave up only two hits with three strike outs. Tanner also worked two innings, giving up three hits, with two strike outs and awalk. Trevor Reddick pitched one inning and gave up no hits with 2 strike outs. Hosting Show Low, they found themselves trailing by five runs heading into the third inning, where they scored just once. The Cougars added to their total with a trio of runs in the fourth inning, then pitched well and played solid defense to earn the 8-2 win. Show Low pitchers struck out 10 Snowflake batters, but the Lobos still outhit the Cougars eight to seven. Three errors and nine runners left on base hurt Snowflake’s chances. Martindale started the game on the hill and took the loss. He worked four innings giving up eight runs, only five earned, on six hits with three strike outs and five walks. Nolan Hatch pitched the final three innings, giving up just one hit with three strike outs and a pair of walks. At the plate, Larson went two for three, Travis Reddick was one for three, and Martindale went two for four with a triple and scored a run. Pawlik was one for three with an RBI, and Peterson went two for three and scored a run. Show Low 131 300 0 8 Snowflake 001 001 0 2 The Lobos will wind up the regular season this week. After hosting Blue Ridge on Tuesday, they will travel to Payson on Friday, May 1, for the season finale. If they can end the season in the top 16 in the power point rankings or finish in at least third place in the East region, they will earn a trip to the state tournament, which begins next week in Phoenix. Heading into this week, they were ranked 13th in the power point system.
