SHS Track Teams Look Good In Recent MeetsApril 29th, 2009
By Greg Perkins Competing in two track meets last week brought two more high finishes for the Snowflake track teams. The boys took second and the girls were third at the Lupe Acevedo Relays, then the teams swept the titles at their own invitational on Friday. Show Low won the boys’ division of the Lupe Acevedo Relays at Blue Ridge High School with 75 points, followed closely by Snowflake with 73. Blue Ridge won the girls’ division with 70 points, followed by Payson with 68 and Snowflake with 62. In the girls’ races Snowflake placed fourth in the 4x100 relay, third in the 4x200, third in the 4x400, fourth in the 4x800, fourth in the 800 meter distance medley, third in the 4000 meter distance medley and third in the 1600 meter distance medley. In the individual field events, Kim Johnson placed first in the high jump; Carli Stratton, fourth; and Hailey Hatch, sixth. In the long jump, Kim Johnson placed second; Kelsey Livingston, third; and Carli Stratton, sixth. In the triple jump, Kim Johnson placed second; Kelsey Livingston, fourth; and Hailey Hatch, fifth. In the shot put, Hailey Hatch placed fifth; Kaylin Turley, ninth; and Sherika Peterson, 10th. In the discus, Sherika Peterson placed sixth; Celeste Silva, ninth; and Chantelle McCleve, 10th. In the boys’ relay races, Snowflake was third in the 4x100, fifth in the 4x200, first in the 4x400, fifth in the 4x800, first in the 800 meter distance medley, third in the 1600 meter distance medley and first in the 4000 meter distance medley. In field events, Jeff Sanderson placed first in the high jump; Michael Bishop, third; and James McDowell, fourth. In the pole vault, Damian Scott placed third; Michael Bishop, eighth; and Josh Uchytil, 16th. In the long jump, Chad Aldenzee placed second; Michael Bishop, fourth; and Damian Scott, 11th. In the triple jump, James McDowell placed third; Chad Aldenzee, fourth; and Michael Bishop, eighth. In the shot put, Jordan Hunt placed second; Jason McCray, fifth; and Nick Alcantar, 12th. In the discus, Jason McCray placed second; Nick Alcantar, fifth; and Jordan Hunt, eighth. The Lobos won their division of the Snowflake Invitational Friday with 163 points, followed by Blue Ridge with 111 and Show Low with 109. Twelve teams competed in the boys’ division. The Lady Lobos also claimed first, scoring 174.5 team points. Blue Ridge was second with 100, and Show Low was third with 69. Fourteen girls’ teams were in the meet. Individual results for the Snowflake boys follow. In the 100 meter dash, Matt Reidhead placed first with a time of 11.27; Kyle Lunt, ninth in 12.13; and Jacob Juarez, 11th in 12.22. In the 200 meter dash, Matt Reidhead placed first with a time of 23.13; Brit Smith, 12th in 24.83; Jacob Juarez, 15th in 25.34; and Cody Gillespie, 16th in 25.35. In the 400 meter dash, Hunter Peterson placed fifth with a time of 54.42; James McDowell, sixth in 54.50; Kyle Lunt, seventh in 55.91; and Chad Aldenzee, 11th in 56.03. In the 800 meter run, Cody Wells placed first with a time of 1:58; Jaden Gardner, ninth in 2:18; Hunter Peterson, 15th in 2:22; and Miguel Dominguez, 16th in 2:23. In the 1600 meter run, Cody Wells placed first with a time of 4:27; John Rodriguez, 11th in 5:16; and Jon Merrill, 16th in 5:26. In the 3200 meter run, Cody Wells completed the trifecta, winning the race with a time of 10:39. John Rodriguez was 11th in 11:49; and Jon Merrill, 16th in 12:19. In the 300 meter hurdles, Jeff Sanderson placed second with a time of 40.97; Jacob Rawlins, fourth in 43.80; and Brit Smith, eighth in 44.88. In the 110 meter hurdles, Jacob Rawlins placed third with a time of 16.58; Jeff Sanderson, fourth in 16.63; Kyle Lunt, fifth in 17.68; and Brit Smith, seventh in 18.66. Snowflake placed second in the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 44.44, first in the 4x400 meter relay in 3:32 and fifth in the 4x800 meter relay in 9:38. In field events, Jeff Sanderson placed second in the high jump, clearing 6’0”; Michael Bishop, third at 5’8”; and James McDowell, sixth at 5’4”. In the pole vault, Damian Scott placed first, clearing 13’0”; and Michael Bishop, sixth at 10’0”. In the long jump, Chad Aldenzee placed sixth with a leap of 19’1.5”; Michael Bishop, 10th at 16’10”; and Damian Scott, 20th at 15’1”. In the triple jump, James McDowell placed fourth with a total of 39’4”; Michael Bishop, seventh at 38’7”; and Chad Aldenzee, eighth at 37’6”. In the shot put, Jordan Hunt placed first with a toss of 47’10”; Nick Alcantar, eighth at 39’3”; and Jason McCray, 13th at 35’9”. In the discus, Jason McCray placed first with a throw of 113’11”; Jordan Hunt, seventh at 103’8”; and Nick Alcantar, ninth at 96’8”. Individual results for the Snowflake girls follow. In the 100 meter dash, Faythe Duran placed fifth with a time of 14.20; Tiffany Richards, 13th in 14.86; Emery Martindale, 15th in 14.90; and Asliegh Turley, 24th in 15.31. In the 200 meter dash, Samarah Houser was second with a time of 28.63; and Asliegh Turley, 11th in 30.87. In the 400 meter dash, Faythe Duran placed first with a time of 1:05; Asliegh Turley, third in 1:06; Ty Craun, sixth in 1:08; and Alisha Flake, seventh in 1:10. In the 800 meter run, Alisha Flake placed second with a time of 2:41; and Ty Craun, 14th in 2:56. In the 1600 meter run, Michelle Boone placed seventh with a time of 6:18. In the 3200 meter run, Michelle Boone placed fourth with a time of 13:52. In the 300 meter hurdles, Samarah Houser placed first with a time of 51.67; Carli Stratton, second in 53.93; Brooke Smith, third in 54.50; and Emery Martindale, seventh in 58.40. In the 100 meter hurdles, Tiffany Richards placed third with a time of 17.97; Emery Martindale, fourth in 18.65; and Brooke Smith, fifth in 19.14. Snowflake placed second in the 4x100 meter relay, second in the 4x400 meter relay and first in the 4x800 meter relay. In field events, Kim Johnson placed first in the high jump, clearing 5’0”; Hailey Hatch, fourth with 4’6”; and Carli Stratton, sixth with 4’6”. In the long jump, Kelsey Livingston placed first with a leap of 14’10”; Carli Stratton, second with 14’8”; and Kim Johnson, eighth with 13’4.5”. In the triple jump, Kelsey Livingston placed second with a total of 29’4”; Hailey Hatch, third with 29’0.5”; and Kim Johnson, fourth with 28’1”. In the shot put, Kaylin Turley was eighth with a throw of 28’3.5”; Hailey Hatch, 12th with 24’11”; Sherika Peterson, 15th with 23’8”; and Celeste Silva, 21st with 21’9”. In the discus, Sherika Peterson placed sixth with a toss of 75’6”; Kaylin Turley, seventh with 74’9”; and Celeste Silva, 14th with 60’5”.
