Lobos Take Second In Regional Track MeetMay 13th, 2009
By Greg Perkins After placing very high all season long in area track meets, the Snowflake Lobos came up just three points short at the 3A East Regional Meet held in Payson last Friday and Saturday. Blue Ridge took the boys’ regional title with 168 team points. Snowflake was second with 165 and Show Low placed third with 159. In the girls’ division, Blue Ridge completed the sweep, scoring 201 team points. Payson was second with 179 and Snowflake finished in third place with 115. Several athletes on both Snowflake teams qualified for the state meet, which will be held this weekend. Individual results for the Snowflake girls follow. In the 100 meter dash, Faythe Duran placed sixth; Tiffany Richards, 11th; and Marnie Kiester, 18th. In the 200 meter dash, Samara Houser was third, Asleigh Turley, 10th; Emery Martindale, 13th; and Marnie Kiester, 14th. In the 400 meter dash, Faythe Duran placed third; Alisha Flake, 10th; Ty Craun, 11th; and Asleigh Turley, 12th. In the 800 meter run, Alisha Flake placed eighth; and Ty Craun, 12th. In the 1600 meter run, Michelle Boone placed fifth. In the 3200 meter run, Michelle Boone placed fifth. In the 300 meter hurdles, Samarah Houser placed fourth; Carli Stratton, fifth; Emery Martindale, seventh; and Brooke Smith, eighth. In the 100 meter hurdles, Tiffany Richards, fourth; Emery Martindale, sixth; and Brooke Smith, eighth. The Lady Lobos placed fourth in the 4x100 meter relay, third in the 4x400 meter relay and second in the 4x800 meter relay. In the high jump, Kim Johnson placed second; Hailey Hatch, sixth; Carli Stratton, seventh; and Blythe Issacs, 11th. In the triple jump, Kim Johnson placed fourth; Kelsey Livingston, fifth; Hailey Hatch, sixth; and Blythe Issacs, 10th. In the pole vault, Kelsey Livingston placed fifth. In the long jump, Kim Johnson placed third; Carli Stratton, fourth; and Blythe Issacs, ninth. In the shot put, Kaylin Turley placed sixth; Hailey Hatch, eighth; Sherika Peterson, 10th; and Celeste Silva, 13th. In the discus, Sherika Peterson placed fifth; Kaylin Turley, sixth; Chantelle McCleve, 11th; and Celeste Silva, 12th. Individual results for the Snowflake boys follow. In the 100 meter dash, Matt Reidhead placed first; Kyle Lunt, sixth; and Jacob Juarez, 12th. In the 200 meter dash, Matt Reidhead placed second; Kyle Lunt, ninth; Cody Gillespie, 12th; and Jacob Juarez, 17th. In the 400 meter dash, Hunter Peterson placed fourth; James McDowell, fifth; and Kyle Lunt, seventh. In the 800 meter run, Cody Wells placed first; James McDowell, 10th; Jaden Gardner, 12th; and Miquel Dominquez, 16th. In the 1600 meter run, Cody Wells placed first; Miquel Dominquez, 11th; John Rodriguez, 17th; and Jon Merrill, 18th. In the 3200 meter run, Cody Wells completed the trifecta with another first place finish. Miquel Dominquez placed 10th; John Rodriguez, 12th; and Jon Merrill, 14th. In the 300 meter hurdles, Jeff Sanderson placed second; Jacob Rawlins, third; Brit Smith, eighth; and Hunter Peterson, 10th. In the 110 meter hurdles, Jeff Sanderson placed third; Jacob Rawlins, ninth; and Brit Smith, 11th. The Lobos won both the 4x100 meter relay and the 4x400 meter relay, and placed fifth in the 4x800 meter relay. In the high jump, Michael Bishop placed fourth. In the pole vault, Damian Scott placed first; and Michael Bishop, 10th. In the long jump, Michael Bishop placed fifth; Damian Scott, 11th; and Cody Gillespie, 12th. In the triple jump, Jacob Rawlins placed first; Michael Bishop, third; and James McDowell, fourth. In the shot put, Jordan Hunt placed second; Jason McCray, sixth; and Huber Juarez, 13th. In the discus, Jason McCray placed first; Jordan Hunt, seventh; and Huber Juarez, 14th. All athletes who finished in the top four of their events or who pre-qualified at an earlier meet will compete at the 3A state meet scheduled on Friday and Saturday, May 15 and 16, at Mesa High School, located at 1630 E. Southern Ave.
