Thirteen Holbrook Athletes Head For State Track Meet

May 15th, 2009

Thirteen members of the Holbrook High School track teams have qualified for the 3A state meet slated today and Saturday (May 15 and 16) at Mesa High School.  Included in that number are regional champions Rex Self in the high jump and 110 meter high hurdles, Olin Jones in the discus, Morty Jim in the shot put and Chelsea John, also in the shot put.
“We are very proud and excited with our athletes’ accomplishments this year as both individuals as well as a team,” said Coach Jody Good.
“Our girls team is small with only 12 girls participating at the regional meet, but of those 12 we had seven qualify for the state meet.
“The boys’ team finished second as the regional runner-up to Winslow. Our senior boys really had an impressive day on Saturday by having three regional champions in four individual events. I feel that it is even more impressive that our boys accomplished this without the use of proper practice facilities to train on.
“Both teams have worked hard all year long and have continued to show improvement week after week. We hope to continue this improvement heading into state,” the coach concluded.
