Lobos Take Second In State Track MeetMay 20th, 2009
By Greg Perkins The Snowflake boys came up just four points short in their bid for a team title at the 3A Track and Field State Championships held in Mesa over the weekend. Blue Ridge took the team title with 78 points, followed by the Lobos with 74 and Winslow in third place with 64. Blue Ridge claimed the state title in the girls’ division, scoring 102 team points. Estrella Foothills was second with 96, followed by Sedona in third with 64.5. Snowflake placed 12th with 17 team points. The Lobos had one individual state champion as Matt Reidhead won the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.02. Kyle Lunt was 15th in that event with a time of 11.76. Cody Wells claimed two runner-up finishes and one third place. He was second in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:58, second in the 1600 meter run in 4:26 and third in the 3200 meter run with a time of 9:55. Jordan Hunt placed second in the shot put with a distance of 49’.75”. Matt Reidhead placed third in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.65. Jeff Sanderson finished third in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 40.05, and ninth in the high jump at 6’0”. Jacob Rawlins placed fourth in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.36; and Jeff Sanderson, sixth in 15.87. Jacob Rawlins placed eighth in the triple jump with a distance of 41’3”; and Michael Bishop, 10th with 40’2”. Michael Bishop placed 11th in the high jump at 5’11”. Hunter Peterson placed 14th in the 400 meter dash with a time of 53.48. Jason McCray placed 16th in the discus with a throw of 103’5”. The Lobos placed first in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:24, and sixth in the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 44.40. Kim Johnson had the highest individual finish for the Snowflake girls, placing second in the high jump with a height of 5’0”; Hailey Hatch, 10th with 4’8”; and Carli Stratton, 11th with 4’6”. Faythe Duran placed sixth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:02. Samarah Houser was eighth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 27.58, and ninth in the 300 meter hurdles in 49.26. Michelle Boone placed 10th in the 3200 meter run with a time of 13:15, and 14th in the 1600 meter run in 6:03. Kim Johnson placed 12th in the triple jump with a distance of 30’2”. Tiffany Richards placed 14th in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 18.02. The Lady Lobos placed sixth in the 4x800 meter relay with a time of 10:47, seventh in the 4x400 meter relay in 4:32 and 10th in the 4x100 meter relay in 54.72.
