Lady Bulldogs Hope Busy Summer Translates To Another Run At Title

June 3rd, 2009

The Winslow Lady Bulldogs enjoyed a highly successful 2008-09 basketball season in which they were Gallup Invitational Tournament, Winslow Winter Classic Tournament and 3A North Region champions, and Arizona State 3A Conference Runners-up.
Coach Don Petranovich, the most winning girls’ basketball coach in Arizona history, has plans designed to make the 2009-10 team equally or more successful. Those plans feature participation in tournaments in June, a camp in July and a major national tournament in San Diego in July.
Petranovich will also take a few days for his trip to Minneapolis to be inducted into the National High School Coaches Hall of Fame on June 23. His success on the court has led to his being honored as among the best of his profession among coaches in the United States.
June will begin with the future Lady Bulldogs playing in a tournament at Mesquite High School in Phoenix. The second week will see the team closer to home in a tournament at Flagstaff. After having the third week off, the team will complete its June activities at a tournament at Gilbert High School.
The Winslow Girls’ Basketball Camp will be held July 6-9. After that camp, the Winslow girls will journey to San Diego on July 13 to participate in one of the most prestigious girls’ summer tournaments in the nation. Winslow has participated in this tournament for many years, and has enjoyed its share of success there.
The Lady Bulldogs were one of the best girls’ basketball teams in the state and this part of the country last season. Most of the starters and oft used players are returning for the coming season. The summer activities and tournaments should make the squad even more talented and ready for a run at another title for their longtime coach.
