Lobos Look Good As They Shut Out GlobeSeptember 23rd, 2009
By Greg Perkins The Lobos may be one of the hottest football teams in the area right now and, thanks to their 56-0 drubbing of Globe last Friday night, they will head into their much anticipated matchup with Blue Ridge this week with an unblemished mark of 4-0, matching the top ranked Yellowjackets’ record. Snowflake played well in nearly all facets the game with Globe, racking up nearly 400 yards of offense with a balanced attack. Quarterback Shawn Walker scored with 7:45 left in the opening period on a four-yard run and the rout was on. With less than a minute left in the quarter, Walker found his favorite target, Robbie Martindale, on a 38-yard connection and the Lobos led by two scores heading to the second period. In the second the special teams got into the act when Adam Frank returned a punt 59 yards for a score, giving the Lobos a comfortable 20-0 halftime lead. Rockie Beatty caught an 11-yard strike from Walker midway through the third period and shortly thereafter, Martindale scored on a 23-yard punt return. Brad Hutson caught a one-yard pass from Walker, capping a solid third period. In the fourth, the backup players got into the act. Trevor Reddick took over at quarterback and found Jake Shumway for a six-yard score, and Randy Seymore caught a 50-yard scoring pass from quarterback Dallin Merrill with under a minute left in the game for the final score of the night. “We played very well in this game. Our offense clicked and our defense was tough, as well. Right now we are putting everything together and we are making our offense work. This group of kids really wants to play well and they really want to win, and the results are starting to show,” said Coach Adam Larsen. For the second time this season the Lobos were perfect in the passing department, with all three quarterbacks completing every pass they threw. Walker completed seven of seven for 126 yards and three touchdowns. Trevor Reddick was one for one for six yards with a score, and Merrill went two for two for 74 yards with a score. Walker was also the leading rusher, gaining 92 yards on seven carries. Ammon McKinlay gained 46 yards on just six attempts. Hutson caught three for 51 yards and Martindale also reached that total with only two catches. Tanner Yellowhair had one catch good for 44 yards. Brandt Perkins led the defense with 13 tackles. Jordan Hunt had nine; Hutson, eight; Colton Reidhead, seven with one sack; and Jason McCray, six with one sack. Globe 0 0 0 0 0 Snowflake 14 6 22 14 56 This week the Lobos will travel to Lakeside to take on the number one team in the state, the Blue Ridge Yellowjackets. The Jackets are 3-0, but have played Alchesay twice and Holbrook, so they really haven’t been tested yet. “We expect to play well, and when you play a team the level of Blue Ridge, you have to be on top of your game, which is where we are right now,” added Coach Larsen.
