Lady Lobos Defeat St. Johns, But Fall To Monument ValleySeptember 30th, 2009
By Greg Perkins Coming off their own tournament win the previous week, the Lady Lobos of Snowflake may have been fatigued this week, but still earned a split in their two matches, beating St. Johns Sept. 24, then falling to Monument Valley on Sept. 26. Hosting the Lady Redskins on Thursday the Lady Lobos won the first game 25-17, took the second 25-12 and closed out the match by winning the third game, 25-12. Jessica Johnson led the team with six kills, an ace and four blocks. Reagon Godfrey had an ace, seven assists and four digs. Brooklyn Rogers had six assists and a dig. Paij Black and Jacquelyn Wolfe each had a dig. Courtney Reidhead was credited with three kills. Kelcie Brimhall had two digs. Brittany Titus had 11 kills and a block, and Taylor Brubaker had a block in the win. On Saturday the Lady Lobos traveled to Monument Valley to take on the unbeaten and defending state champs, and came home with a three-game loss. The Lady Mustangs took the first game 25-20, the second, 25-23 and third, 25-12, to win the match. “We had a learning experience against them. The first two games were competitive, but we were tentative and played scared. In the second game, though, we settled down and we were tied at 23-23 when we made a couple of costly errors. It was unfortunate, if we could have pulled out game two things might have been different. Then after the second game my team mentally gave up and we were not even competitive in game three,” said Coach Alan Ramage. “We have a lot to work on and we may shake some things up. The only other time we can possibly see Monument again is in the state tournament. “We had a tough week, my girls were a little tired coming off the tournament from last week and our practices were not as intense as I would have liked, especially knowing we had to face Monument Valley. Hopefully, we can learn from that loss.” The loss was Snowflake’s first non-tournament loss of the season. The Lady Lobos fall to 12-1, but remain perfect in East region play. After playing Round Valley at Eagar on Tuesday, they will host Payson on Thursday, Oct. 1. On Tuesday, Oct. 6, they play at Show Low.
