Lady Roadrunners Go 2-2 In Busy Week On The Courts

    The Holbrook volleyball squad won both matches played during Homecoming Week, picking up non-region wins over Greyhills and Alchesay, then fell to defending state champion Monument Valley in both ends of a Saturday doubleheader.  
    Making the long trip to Tuba City on Tuesday to face the Greyhills Lady Knights, Holbrook took the early advantage, winning the first game 25-17 and the second, 25-16. The Lady Roadrunners couldn’t close out the match, losing the third game 21-25, but ended things in the fourth with a 25-19 win.   
    Aaren Billie had three kills and two digs. Sheria Billie had 13 kills, eight digs, two blocks and four aces. Amanda Chee tallied three kills, 14 digs, 19 assists and served an ace. Chelsea John had six kills, seven assists and a block. Kalei Long had three kills, 10 digs and two aces.  Mallory Martin had 10 kills, 22 digs and four aces. Rietta Wagoner picked up seven kills, and had 13 digs, two blocks and four aces. Sam Yazzie ended with nine digs, 16 assists and two aces.
    On Thursday night Alchesay came to Muñoz Gym for a non-region contest and the struggling Lady Falcons, who have won just one match all season, were simply dominated by the Lady Roadrunners. Holbrook set the tone with a 25-5 win in game one, then rolled to a 25-10 win in the second and sealed the victory with a 25-6 decision in the third and final game.
    Sheria Billie had nine kills, two digs, an assist, a block and two aces. Chee had four kills, five digs, 13 assists and nine aces. John had four kills, two digs and three assists. April Lester had three kills, four digs and three aces. Long had three kills and four digs. Martin had four kills, five digs and two aces. Danielle Tapaha had a kill, a dig and an assist. Wagoner had three kills, three digs and an ace. Yazzie had a dig, nine assists and served an ace.
    Holbrook fell to the defending state champion Lady Mustangs in both matches of a doubleheader on Saturday.  Monument Valley took the first match, winning three games to none, then won the second match in four games by a 3-1 decision.
    This week the Holbrook  girls will travel to Chinle on Thursday, Oct. 8, then will go back to Tuba City to face the top ranked Lady Warriors on Saturday, Oct. 10.  On Monday, Oct. 12, during fall break they will host Chinle before taking some time off.
