The Winslow Bulldogs routed the Sedona Red Rock Scorpions 59-15 in Sedona last Friday night. The win improved Winslow’s record to 7-1 for the season. The Bulldogs remained 4-0 in the 3A North Region. Sedona remained winless at 0-8.
The first half was incredibly long as Sedona passed a number of times, even throwing at least four times on fourth and long. The Scorpions had only three yards rushing in the first half, and 92 yards passing on seven of 31 attempts and two interceptions. Winslow had 286 rushing yards in the first half and 46 yards passing on three of eight attempts. The first half took an hour and a half to play.
The second half was played with a running clock and was much faster.  Sedona threw 42 passes in the game, completing nine.
The Bulldogs got three first quarter touchdowns from Chayse Russell followed by successful conversions by Aaron Martin.
Russell scored on a 16-yard run to complete an 11-play, 70-yard drive on Winslow’s first possession. He ran three yards to cap a 49-yard scoring drive on their second possession.
Sedona scored on a 35-yard pass from Jack Jackson to Ben Sedicuss one play following a Winslow fumble.
Russell completed the first period scoring on a 28-yard run.
Wendell Carter scored on a two-yard run early in the second period. Kraig Shirley hit Tevin Renfro on a 19-yard pass for the second Winslow touchdown of the quarter.  Shirley ran 20 yards for the next score. Anthony Huerta ran two yards for the final touchdown of the half. All of the conversions were good and Winslow left the field leading 49-7.
The game was already being played with a running clock when the second half began. Russell scored his fourth touchdown of the game on a nine-yard run early in the third quarter.
The Bulldogs scored again on a 35-yard field goal Martin booted on first down. The field goal increased the led to 59-7. After Russell’s fourth touchdown, the Bulldogs were mostly playing substitutes. The third quarter ended quickly with the running clock and Winslow leading 59-7.
Sedona scored for the second time in the game on a 71-yard punt return by Dillon Watson. The Scorpions scored a two point conversion on a pass from Jackson to Bradley Cox that cut the Winslow lead to a still commanding 59-15. That was still the score at the final buzzer.
The Bulldogs will play their final road game of the regular season on Friday, Oct. 23, at Tuba City against the Warriors. That will leave only a final home game against the Monument Valley Mustangs on Friday, Oct. 30. The Monument Valley game could have playoff implications.
