Lady Lobos Win Four Last Week To Move Their Record To 26-3October 21st, 2009
By Greg Perkins The Lady Lobos improved to 26-3 on the volleyball season and remained perfect in conference action with four wins last week. Snowflake took down Blue Ridge last Tuesday, winning the three games 25-16, 25-23 and 25-19 against their closest conference rival. In that match, Reagon Godfrey had an ace, 16 assists and two digs. Jessica Johnson had 19 kills and three blocks. Brooklyn Rogers had seven assists. Jacquelyn Wolfe had two assists. Sherrida Fish had an assist and four digs. Ryanne Willis had a kill. Brittany Titus had eight kills and a block. Taylor Brubaker had three kills and an assist. On Thursday, the Lady Lobos traveled to Payson and took care of the Lady Longhorns in three games, 25-16, 25-16 and 25-23. Godfrey led the team in assists with 11 and Rogers was close behind with 10. Johnson led the way with 13 kills, Courtney Reidhead added five, Titus had four and Willis added three. On Saturday, Snowflake hosted Ganado in a doubleheader and won both matches in three games. The Lady Lobos took the first match 25-12, 25-16, and 25-21. Johnson pounded down 14 kills and Titus added 11. Godfrey helped out with 19 assists and Natalie Elkins was credited with five. Willis added four kills and a pair of blocks. In the second match the Lady Lobos again came out on top in all three games, winning 25-14, 25-13 and 25-22. The trio of Johnson, Titus and Willis combined for 41 kills. Johnson had 19, Titus, 12; and Willis, 10. Rogers had 15 assists; Godfrey, eight; and Carlie Stratton, six. Wolfe, Willis and Titus each had two blocks in the win. “This was one of our toughest weeks of the season. We came off the Goldwater tourney and faced three good teams,” said Coach Alan Ramage. “I was proud of my girls because they handled the pressure pretty good this week. I was anticipating a little bit of a letdown, but they didn’t have one. “We beat our rivals Blue Ridge and followed that up with a good win over Payson. We have been letting up a little in the third set of each match and we are trying to get that intensity back, where girls continue to fight and win big. We still have a ways to go. In our Ganado match, I had one girl step it up quite a bit. Ryanne Willis has been improving slowly and is still trying to get back to herself prior to the injury she suffered early in the season. She contributed 10 kills in the second match with Ganado. She is going to be needed for us to be competitive this post-season. I am happy with the play of the girls, and I feel they are settling in and getting ready for regionals and state.” Snowflake will conclude the regular season this week with a home match against Show Low on Thursday, Oct. 22.
