The Lady Lobos dropped both soccer matches they played last week, one by a lopsided score and the other in a hard fought, one-point decision that easily could have gone their way.
Last Tuesday Snowflake played host to St. Johns and played well, but couldn’t put the ball in the goal dropping the match 5-0.
“We played a good, strong game and our goalies did a great job. We are still just not able to get our shots into the net. The team has improved in field play and is really working well together,” said Coach Anna Brubaker.
The Lady Lobos managed 15 shot attempts led by Hailey Hatch and Sherika Peterson with three each. Faythe Duran and Emery Martindale each took two shots.
Ty Craun had five saves in goal and Lindsey Webb saved four Lady Redskin shot attempts.
On Saturday, the Lady Lobos played very well in their home match against Payson.
“This was an amazing game with great passes. We played with both of our usual goalies gone, but junior varsity player Ashley Turley stepped in and played great with five saves,” noted Coach Brubaker. Natasha Spader also played well in goal with three saves.
Kiana Nativdad scored both Snowflake goals, one with an assist from Shelbi Rowlins and the other off an assist by Becca Kay. Snowflake took 21 shot attempts, led by Rowlins with five and Kelsey Livingston with three.
Snowflake had two apparent goals taken away with officials’ decisions in the second half that could have given them their fifth win of the season.
“We thought we had two goals late in the game, but in each case the official determined that we kicked the ball out of the goalie’s hands.  We may not have won this game, but we certainly outplayed them,” concluded Coach Brubaker.
The Lady Lobos are now 1-4 in conference play and 4-10 on the season. They will conclude their season this week with two matches.  On Tuesday they were slated to travel to Eagar to play Round Valley, and they will complete their season on the road at St. Johns on Saturday, Oct. 24.
