Roadrunners Shut Out Chinle, 55-0October 21st, 2009
By Greg Perkins The Roadrunners continue to have their way with the lower level teams in the North region, beating up on Chinle on Friday night by a final of 55-0. Even without their usual starting quarterback, Holbrook was able to shut out the Wildcats and earn its fourth region win and fifth overall game of the season. Big offensive plays and more defensive scores paced the Birds to the lopsided win. Ilacian Johnson had a big night running the ball and scored the game’s first touchdown on a 46-yard run in the first period. Blake Maestas added a 60-yard scoring run and Holbrook held a 12-0 lead going into the second quarter. In the second the onslaught continued with Johnson hauling in a pass from Adrian Perkins and taking it 88 yards for another score. Perkins connected with Ryan Baldonado for the two-point conversion and Holbrook led 20-0. Johnson scored again on a 24-yard run and Perkins found Tyler Stingley for the conversion, pushing the margin to 28-0. Stingley then scored on defense when he picked off a Wildcat pass and returned it 83 yards to end the first half scoring with Holbrook on top 34-0. Perkins scored first in the third period on a 62-yard run, then booted the point after to make the lead 41-0. Stingley added another defensive score, this time with a 25-yard return of a Wildcat fumble. Perkins kicked the extra point and the lead grew to 48-0. There was just one score in the fourth period, which came on a 45-yard run by Perkins. His final extra point of the night capped the scoring at 55-0. Holbrook ended the game with 415 yards of total offense. Perkins completed seven of nine passing attempts for 141 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Johnson had one catch for 88 yards and a score. Baldonado made two grabs for 19 yards, and Stingley had three catches good for 32 yards. Maestas had one catch for two yards. Perkins also led the team in rushing, gaining 106 yards on five carries. Johnson carried eight times for 96 yards. Maestas rushed three times for 69 yards. Marcus Castillo gained two yards on as many carries, and James Self carried the ball twice and gained one yard. AJ Aragon led the defensive attack with 10 tackles and recovered one fumble.
