Lady Lobos Look Good In Final Two Soccer OutingsOctober 28th, 2009
By Greg Perkins Even though they didn’t win either of their final two soccer matches of the season, the Lady Lobos showed improvement with a one-goal loss to Round Valley and an overtime loss to league leading St. Johns. In last Tuesday’s match with Round Valley in Eagar, the Lady Lobos fell 3-2, but played well with 15 shot attempts. Hailey Hatch led the team with three of those shots, while Kiana Nativdad and Kelsey Livingston each took two shots. Katherine Dutcher and Livingston each found the mark with goals, and Debbie Nezzie was credited with an assist. Ty Craun saved 12 shots in goal for the Lady Lobos. Facing league leading St. Johns on Saturday, the Lady Lobos played very well in their season finale. “The girls were looking forward to just having fun and playing a good game against the number one team in our region. By halftime after neither team had scored; my girls were amazed and excited that they were playing so well,” said Coach Anna Brubaker. The second half went much like the first and ended in a scoreless tie. Despite this being a non-conference match, both sides agreed to go into overtime and through both 10-minute sessions, neither team was able to score, forcing the outcome to be decided by five penalty kicks from each side. Snowflake made just one of its five attempts, with Hatch finding the mark. The St. Johns squad made good on three of its shot attempts to get the win. “We played great in the second half. We passed, talked, switched positions, dropped and pulled up, everything we have been working on finally came together in our last game. Ty Craun did a great job at keeper, we have just never practiced penalty kicks. I feel like next year we are going to be a real contender to go to state. The girls have the ability to play well even though it has taken the whole season to get them to realize that they can do it. I am proud of all the hard work they put in this year. They have improved their skills and came together as a team. Good job, girls,” concluded Coach Brubaker.
