Roadrunners Take Ninth In Holbrook Invitational Meet

    Hosting the very large Holbrook Invitational cross country meet last Friday afternoon at Hidden Cove Golf Course, the Roadrunner boys’ team finished in ninth place in the 20-team field. Tuba City claimed the team title with 66 points, just one ahead of Many Farms, which had 67.  Chinle placed third with 78.  Holbrook finished with 269 team points.
    Ryan Yazzie and Billy Orman, both of Tuba City, placed first and second in the 130-runner field. Yazzie’s time of 16:17 was just one second ahead of his teammate’s. Robert Lowe of Many Farms placed third with a time of 16:37.
    Holbrook was paced by Jackie Frank, who placed 40th with a time of 18:18. Melcomh Chee was 48th in 18:32; Adrian Thomas, 49th in 18:33; Corey Kanuho, 57th in 18:42; Clint Alex, 81st in 19:43; Jimrail Manygoats, 99th in 20:21; and Maurice Joe, 106th in 20:42.   
    In the open division race, which drew 88 runners, Marvin Yazzie placed 63rd with a time of 22:14 and Miles Begay was 67th, finishing in 22:31.
    Holbrook placed 14th in the girls’ division, which featured 18 teams. Chinle won the team title with 31 points. Flagstaff was second with 45 and Page placed third with 103. Chinle’s Rolanda Jumbo won the race with a time of 19:34. Her teammate Charnelle Curley was second in 19:54.  Kimmi Allen of Flagstaff placed third with a time of 19:58.
    Holbrook was led by Colbi Nez, who placed 29th with a time of 22:15.  Tamisha Yazzie placed 61st in 24:00; Kelsi Yazzie, 83rd in 25:16; Robin James, 93rd in 25:47; Andrell Williams, 99th in 26:40; and Jessica Yazzie, 100th in 26:57.   
    In the open division, Mariah Thomas finished 63rd with a time of 31:58 and Valencia James was 69th with 33:38. There were 72 runners in the open division race.
    Holbrook will now prepare for the North Regional Meet, which will be held in Chinle on Friday, Oct. 30.
