SHS Lady Lobos Win Regional TournamentNovember 4th, 2009
By Greg Perkins Snowflake’s Lady Lobos backed up their regular season region crown with a regional tournament title by defeating Blue Ridge in the championship match last Saturday. After receiving a bye in the first round, the Lady Lobos took care of Round Valley in the second round, winning the match in three straight games, 25-18, 25-14 and 25-22. In that match, Reagon Godfrey had eight assists. Jessica Johnson had 14 kills and three blocks. Brooklyn Rogers had eight assists. Courtney Reidhead had five kills and two aces. Kelci Brimhall had three digs. Ryanne Willis had five kills and an assist. Brittany Titus had six kills. Taylor Brubaker had five kills. Carlie Stratton had three assists. In the title match Snowflake faced a tougher test, but still came out on top. The Lady Lobos won the first game 25-21, then had to go extra points to win the second game 26-24 and closed out the match with a 25-19 win in game three. Godfrey piled up 13 assists and three digs. Johnson pounded down 15 kills with six blocks and three digs. Alex Merrill helped with two kills, an ace and a dig. Rogers served one ace, and had 10 assists and three digs. Jacquelyn Wolfe added two assists. Reidhead had a kill. Brimhall had seven digs. Willis added four kills and two blocks. Titus had six kills, a block and six digs. Brubaker had three kills, two blocks and two assists. With the wins the Lady Lobos improved to 29-4 on the season and head to the state tournament as the fourth overall seed. They will open against 13th seeded Empire at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 6, at Bradshaw Mountain High School in Prescott Valley. If they win, they will advance to face either fifth seeded Sedona Red Rock or 12th seed Payson in the second round, which will be played at 5 p.m. on Friday at Bradshaw Mountain. If the Lady Lobos advance to the semi-finals, they would most likely take on top seeded Monument Valley at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7, at Prescott High School. The championship match is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Saturday. A loss in any of the matches will bring their season to a close.
