SHS Lobos Take 13th In State Cross Country MeetNovember 11th, 2009
By Greg Perkins The Snowflake boys’ cross country team had seven runners compete in the 125-entry 3A state cross country meet held in Cave Creek last Saturday afternoon. As a team, the Lobos placed 13th among 17 teams in the competition. Tuba City claimed the team title with 42 points followed by Chinle with 55, Ganado, 123, Sedona, 125 and Blue Ridge, 136. The Lobos totaled 356 points. Individually, the Lobos’ top runner was Noah Flake, who placed 55th with a time of 19:24. Laitham Hunt placed 77th in 20:15; Rolley Burton, 84th in 20:31; Joey Cox, 89th in 20:40; Levi Flake, 91st in 20:42; JP Rodriguez, 115th in 23:10; and Chad Merrell, 121st in 24:17. Tuba City’s Billy Orman easily won the race with a time of 15:47, well ahead of second place Jesus Rivera from Sedona, who finished in 16:15. Orman’s teammate Ryan Yazzie placed third with a time of 16:54. Rolanda Jumbo and Charnelle Curley both from Chinle took the top two spots in the girls’ race, and April Tracy from Tuba City placed third. Jumbo’s winning time was 18:40 over the 3.1-mile course. Alisha Flake was the only Snowflake runner to compete in the girls’ race, and she placed 40th with a time of 23:26.
