Roadrunners Fall To Elks In First Round Of State Playoffs

November 11th, 2009

The Roadrunners’ football season came to a close last Saturday night as they lost to the Round Valley Elks in the first round of the state playoffs.
Holbrook entered the game as the 10th seeded team and had to face an Elks team seeded seventh on their own turf where they have been unbeaten all season.
Round Valley opened the game by moving the ball on the ground early in the first period, where they had success, then when Holbrook countered to stop the run, the Elks went to their heralded pass offense and put points on the board. Round Valley was able to build a commanding lead before Holbrook managed to score its only points of the night in the 35-8 loss.
Holbrook put together a nice season with six wins and five losses. The Roadrunners finished in second place in the North region, losing to Winslow.
