Roadrunners Look Forward To A Good Season On The Courts

    Holbrook Coach Raul Mendoza returns three starters from last year’s team, which went 21-12 overall and finished in third place in the North region and advanced to the state basketball tournament, where the Roadrunners fell in the first round.  
    Players on the varsity team at this point include returning starters Kory Koerperich and Ilacian Johnson, both juniors, and senior Tyler Stingley.  Joining them on the squad are seniors Brian Hansen, and Adrian Sandoval, both of whom have varsity experience.  
    Jalen Jackson, Joey Aguilera, Ryan Baldonado, Bryson Keoni, Diamond Mitchell and Rashaun Baldwin complete the varsity roster.   
    “I feel that with the varsity experience we should be competitive in our region. Also the younger players should be able to contribute as the season progresses,” said Coach Mendoza.
    Coaching the junior varsity team is Delmar Johnson. His squad includes juniors Joey Aguilera and Maurice Joe, along with sophomores Decoven Adams, Ryan Baldonado, Rashaun Baldwin, Myles John, Seth Hadley, Bryson Keoni, Dakota Lester, Jimrail Manygoats, Carlisle Yazzie and Hector Yazzie.
    Frank Stacey will coach the freshman squad, which includes Gabriel Andis, Loren Bahe, Brandon Bitsui, Myron Chester, Marvin Jones, Ryan Lester, Robert Nelson, Wimberly Nodestine, Sheldon Silversmith, Jesse Spangler, Clyde Tsosie, Nathan Turley and Ben Williams.
    All three teams were scheduled to kick off their season Tuesday night (Nov. 24) when they hosted Snowflake. On Tuesday, Dec. 1, they travel to Show Low, followed by a Dec. 3 game at Valley Sanders. On Dec. 7, they will travel to Payson.
