The Lady Wildcats of Joseph City have seven returning players from last year’s team, which posted a 14-16 overall record including a 9-6 mark in region play.
Coach Mike Sterkowitz is looking forward to a good season. “I’m excited about the season. We have seven returning players, but still need to work on the extras of our game like full court and half court presses, but I think we will do well. The scrimmage with Holbrook showed me what we need to work on and the personnel I will need in the line up to get the job done,” stated the coach.
Thirteen players are on the varsity roster at this time, including seniors Shelby Fish, Shealynn Hill, Jaci Penrod, Natalie Griffith and Loucinda Jensen, juniors Mackenzie Fields, Ivorie Cochran, Brianna Massey, Lindsey Larsen and Alyssa Dixon, and freshmen Taylor Hill, Lexi Edwards and Latanya Kinlicheenie.
Playing on the junior varsity team coached by Teddi Baird will be senior exchange student Mami Ishakawa, sophomores Mashayla Young, Julianna Brown, Mikayla Rogers, Harlie Blosser, Karissa Paddock, Dustie Denault, Keanu Taylor and Deanne Ohlson, and freshmen Searra Hansen, Sierra Johnstun, Kayla Hughes, Cheyenne Penrod, Heidi Hunsaker and Savanna Baer.
After opening the season at Seligman on Tuesday, the Lady Wildcats will host St. Johns on Dec. 1, then play in the Williams Tournament scheduled Dec. 4-6.
