Wildcats Look Forward To A Good Basketball SeasonNovember 27th, 2009
By Greg Perkins Even though football season just recently ended for the Wildcats, several of those same state champion athletes will take to the hardwood as the basketball season gets under way this week for Joseph City. Last season the Wildcats posted a 21-12 season, including a 12-3 conference record. Their season ended in the second round of the state playoffs with a loss to Pima. This year Coach Eric Miller has five seniors returning to what has to physically be one of the bigger teams at the 1A level. Spencer Baldwin, Justin Clifford, Stephen Solomon, Braden Hansen and William Bushman are the senior leaders on this year’s team. They will be joined by juniors Zach Miller, Tracy Poudrier and Josh Parra, sophomores Daniel Bushman, Dallin Baldwin and Wyatt Bain, and freshman Jacob Fields. The Wildcats scrimmaged Holbrook last Friday night and Coach Miller pretty much expected a rusty team. “With only three days of practice since football, it will take a while for us to get the rust off. It was a nice way for us to warm up to what we hope will be a good season,” said Miller. After playing at Seligman to open the season on Tuesday, the Wildcats will return to the court on Dec. 1 when they host St. Johns. On Dec. 3, they will begin play at the Coca-Cola Classic tournament. On Dec. 12, they play at Northland Prep.
