The Joseph City Wildcats started the basketball season in a big way, securing a 60-point road win over Seligman Nov. 24.
The Wildcats started out on fire, scoring 36 first period points to build a 30-point lead. In the second quarter their hot shooting continued and their defense remained stingy as well. At the half Joseph City was on top 55-11. By the time the second half ended, the Wildcats found themselves on top 88-28.
“Everyone played and played very well.  They all got a lot of playing time. We were missing a couple of players, but the 10 who played did a great job. We didn’t shoot the ball all that well, but we dominated on the boards with 65 rebounds, including 38 offensive boards,” said Coach Eric Miller.
Justin Clifford led the team in scoring with 17 points to go with 15 rebounds and five assists. Spencer Baldwin had 16 points on eight for 11 shooting along with eight rebounds. Zach Miller scored 15 points with seven rebounds and seven steals. Dallin Baldwin added 10 points and 10 rebounds. Tracy Poudrier helped out with seven rebounds and four steals.
After hosting St. Johns on Tuesday, the Wildcats will be in action this weekend at the Chinle Invitational tournament. They open play against Many Farms on Thursday, Dec. 3. On Friday, Dec. 11, they are slated to host White Cone, then travel to Flagstaff the next day to meet Northland Prep.
