A cold shooting night kept the Lady Wildcats from winning their season opener Nov. 24 as they fell to Seligman by a 43-34 final score.
“We played sloppy and shot the ball very poorly. We only made nine of 51 attempts from the field and converted just 14 of 25 field goal attempts,” said Coach Mike Sterkowitz. “Even with those numbers we were still able to close the gap to four points in the last minute of the fourth quarter, but our shots just didn’t fall down the stretch.”
Both teams started slowly through the first eight minutes, with Seligman holding a 7-5 lead at the end of the first period. In the second the Lady Antelopes found their stride, outscoring the Lady Wildcats by 10 points building a 12-point halftime lead.
Joseph City played better in the third period, trimming five points off the lead, but in the fourth the Lady Cats again struggled from the field, scoring just seven.
Shelby Fish led the team in scoring with 13 points, and had eight steals. Jaci Penrod added 11 points along with three assists, eight steals and six boards. Natalie Griffith added 3 points with 10 rebounds and two steals. Brianna Massey, Ivorie Cochran and Shealynn Hill each scored 2.  Mackenzie Fields added 1 and seven rebounds.
