JCHS Wildcat Track Team Takes Sixth In NPA Skydome ClassicMarch 10th, 2010
By Greg Perkins Competing in the first track meet of the season at the NPA (Northland Preparatory Academy) Skydome Classic held March 2 in Flagstaff, the Joseph City Wildcats placed sixth in the 17-team field. Sedona won the boys’ title with 63 points. Snowflake was second with 54 and Tuba City placed third with 49. The Wildcats scored 25 points to tie for sixth place. In the 60 meter dash, Stephen Solomon placed fifth with a time of 7.41; Zack Baldwin, sixth in 7.41; and Clark Davis, 43rd in 8.28. In the 200 meter dash, Stephen Solomon was second with a time of 23.36; Zack Baldwin, 14th in 24.82; and Austin Gardner, 36th in 27.49. In the 400 meter dash, Luke DeWitt placed 23rd in 59.41; and Austin Gardner, 26th in 1:00. Luke DeWitt placed 33rd in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:31; and Daniel Bushman, 52nd in 2:50. Daniel Bushman placed 43rd in the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:57. In the 60 meter hurdles, Dallin Baldwin placed 13th with a time of 10.30; Justin Parisot, 14th in 10.41; and Cody Smyth, 18th in 10.74. Dallin Baldwin placed fifth in the high jump, clearing 5’8”. In the long jump event, Stephen Solomon was 21st with a jump of 16’9.5”; Clark Davis, 25th with 16’0”; and Justin Parisot, 32nd with 15’5.5”. Spencer Baldwin won the shot put event with a distance of 48’10”; Zack Baldwin placed fifth with 43’0”; and Clark Davis, 23rd with 35’0”. The Lady Wildcats placed 13th in the large field of girls’ teams with 10 team points. Sedona claimed the team title with 76, followed by Show Low with 52 and Snowflake with 43. In the 60 meter dash, Lindey Larsen placed seventh with a time of 8.75; Sara Solomon, 25th in 9.26; and Mami Ishikawa, 48th in 10.30. In the 200 meter dash Lindey Larsen placed sixth with a time of 29.15; Sara Solomon, 17th in 30.20; and Mami Ishikawa, 48th in 35.00. In the 800 meter run, Lexi Edwards was 14th with a time of 2:47; Kayla Hughes, 16th in 2:49; and Natalie Griffith, 18th, also with 2:49. Lexi Edwards placed second overall in the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:51; and Britney Smith was 31st in 7:27. The 4x400 team of Lexi Edwards, Natalie Griffith, Kayla Hughes and Lindey Larsen placed sixth with a time of 4:46. In the high jump, Megan Johnstun and Britney Smith tied for ninth, clearing 4’4”. Kayla Hughes placed 20th in the long jump with a distance of 12’10.5”. In the shot put Kaylee Pugh placed 18th with a distance of 25’7”.
