When all seven football teams in the 3A North Region take the field on Friday, Aug. 27, for their opening day, non-regional games, the Winslow Bulldogs will be the only team facing an opponent from a 3A region or higher. The Bulldogs will open against the Round Valley Elks, a perennial playoff team from the tough 3A East Region. The Bulldogs’ other non-regional games are both in Winslow against the Snowflake Lobos of the 3A East Region on Sept. 9 and the Sedona Red Rock Scorpions of the 3A West Region on Oct. 15.

The Holbrook Roadrunners will open against the 2A North Region Greyhills Knights at Tuba City. To their credit, the Roadrunners have three very tough non-regional games against the 3A East Region Lobos at Snowflake on Sept. 3, at home against the always formidable Blue Ridge Yellowjacket on Sept. 10 and finally hosting the Chino Valley Cougars of the 3A West Region in the final regular season game on Oct. 29.

The Tuba City Warriors will open against the 2A North Region Hopi Bruins at Polacca. The Warriors also host the 3A West Region River Valley Dust Devils on Sept. 24 and may have a date with the Page Sand Devils. There was such a game listed on their schedule but it was the same time they are scheduled to play at Winslow on Sept. 3.

The Window Rock Scouts will open at home against little Fort Wingate, N.M. The Scouts will be on the road for their next non-regional game at Many Farms to meet the 2A North Region Lobos. The Alchesay Falcons of the 3A East Region will be their toughest non-regional opponent at home on Sept. 10.

The Monument Valley Mustangs open at home against the 2A North Region Red Mesa Redskins. After that, the Mustangs have one of the toughest non-regional schedules at Whiteriver against the Alchesay Falcons of the 3A East Region on Thursday, Sept. 2, at the 4A North Region Page Sand Devils on Sept. 10 and at Snowflake on Oct. 22 in the next to the last game of the regular season.

The Chinle Wildcats open at Many Farms against the 2A North Region Lobos, then host the 2A North Hopi Bruins on Sept. 3 and the 2A North Red Mesa Redskins on Sept. 10.

The Ganado Hornets open at home against the Canyon State Rams of the 2A South Region. The second game for the Hornets will be at home on Sept. 3 against the 2A North Red Mesa Redskins. The final non-regional game for the Hornets will be their toughest against the Blue Ridge Yellowjackets of the 3A East Region at Lakeside on Oct. 8.

The first 3A North Region game will be on Sept. 3 at Winslow when the Bulldogs host the Tuba City Warriors. There will not be another regional game until Sept. 17 when Winslow hosts Ganado, Holbrook is at Monument Valley in what could be an important contest for both teams and Tuba City is at Window Rock in another contest with playoff implications. Chinle has a non-regional game that day at Show Low and will open its regional schedule the next week (Sept. 24) at Winslow.
