Cathryn Carla Mastel

    Cathryn Carla Mastel, 52, died peacefully at home on Thursday, Feb. 21, 2008. Funeral services were held Feb. 27 at the Faith Lutheran Church in Overgaard.  The very reverend and family friend Pastor Bernt Larson, her loving family and her very dear friends combined together to perform this memorial service.
    Cathryn was born November 17, 1955, in San Diego, California, the daughter of Betty (Taylor) and Kenneth Bant.  
    She moved to Rawlins, Wyo., in 1974, where she met and married Patrick Houser in 1980. They raised two children, Nikole and Carly.  
    Cathryn worked for WYDOT for almost 12 years, the last nine of which were as supervisor of the Rawlins Driver’s Services Office.
    She met Jerome Mastel in Saratoga, Wyo., in 1995. In 2001 they married in Hawaii and moved to Eagle River, Alaska, where they lived for 3½ years.  
    While in Alaska, Cathryn was employed with Alaska Department of Motor Vehicles and Jerome by the U.S. Forest Service.
    Cathryn and Jerome moved to Arizona in 2005, and have lived in Overgaard for the last three years, where Cathryn worked as a Realtor.
    Cathryn loved people, whichreflected in her roles as a driver’s services specialist and Realtor.  More than that, she dearly loved her family and the many friends she had. Outside of work and home, she enjoyed floating, fishing, camping and visiting her many friends.  Her most recent joy was the birth of her first grandson on Dec. 29, 2007.
    Survivors include her husband, Jerome of Overgaard; her mother and stepfather, Betty and Charlie Jones of Pahrump, Nev.; her father, Kenneth Bant of Prescott; her daughter, Nikole Houser of Clay Springs; her daughter and son-in-law, Carly Houser and Donny Peterson of Costa Mesa, Calif.; her very special grandson, Aydin Patrick Peterson of Costa Mesa; and her brother, Steven Bant, and his fiance’, Sherri Baker of Pahrump.
    Cathryn was cremated and will be taken home to Wyoming at a later date, where her ashes will be scattered in the mountains and river she so loved.
    Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to a charity of choice.
    Owens Mortuary of Show Low was in charge of the arrangements.
