Bernice Pearl Pfankuch, 97, died on Monday, Dec. 24, 2007, at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire, Wis. Funeral services were held Dec. 29 at Smith Funeral Chapel in Eau Claire, with Pastor John Van Gorkum officiating. Burial was at Forest Hill Cemetery in Eau Claire. Bernice was born on July 27, 1910, to Michael “Mike” and Cora Fuss in Glen Flora, Wis. She married Herman Pfankuch. After his death in 1958, she moved to Holbrook, where she worked for the telephone company. She returned to Eau Claire in 1999, and lived at the St. Francis Apartments. Her hobbies were oil painting, sewing, cooking, and being with her family and grandchildren. She was a supporting member of Calvary Baptist Church. Survivors include her daughter, Nancy (James) Spielman of Jim Falls, Wis.; her son, Louis (Lora) Pfankuch of San Bruno, Calif.; her stepson, Eugene Pfankuch of Hayward, Wis.; her sister, Anna Hazel Carlton of Madison, Wis.; 24 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Herman; and three sisters, Vivian Fuss Golden, Ings Fuss and June Fuss.
