Howard Dwight Fischer, 73, died on Monday, March 24, 2008, in Winslow. A memorial service will be held at 2 o’clock this afternoon (March 28) at Holbrook Elks Lodge 2450, located at 714 Elkdom Ave. He was born on July 13, 1934, in Holbrook, the son of William F. Fischer Sr. and Edna I. (Key) Fischer. Howard married Phyllis Simpson on Sept. 17, 1953, in Gallup, N.M. He began working for his father at Fischer’s Garage at a young age, and later worked for Lacy Greer, Cablecom and the Holbrook School District. Howard enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and working on cars. He loved old black and white Western movies. He was a founding member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 2450 in Holbrook. He was a member of the Holbrook Volunteer Fire Department from 1967 to 1975. Howard was well loved by his family and friends, and will be missed by them all. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis of Holbrook; his five children, Edwin Dwight Fischer (Joy Bur-roughs), Vickie James (Lester), Donald S. Fischer (Rosalie) and Jerry Wayne Fischer (Patricia), all of Hol-brook, and Shawn Phillips (Jacky) of Olden, Texas; 15 grandchildren, Sharette, Ashleigh, Michael, Mindy, Cardest, Kelli, Kimberly, Jessica, Donald Jr., Roxanne, Kayla, Trista, Katlynn, Savannah and Megan; 26 great-grandchildren; two brothers, William F. “Bill” Fischer Jr. (Betty) and George Fischer (Sandy); one sister, Diana Peck; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers-in-law, a nephew and four nieces.
