Leon G. Murphy

Leon George Murphy, 92, died on Saturday, April 19, 2008. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 29, at the Pioneer Park Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Snowflake.
    He was born July 6, 1915, in Waldport, Ore., to George and Mamie (Reynolds) Murphy.  
    He and his family moved to Snowflake in 1962, where he worked at the paper mill until he retired in 1974 and moved to Duncan.  During his retirement he enjoyed mining and rock hunting.  He spent many hours scouring the hills of southeastern Arizona.
    Survivors include his wife, of 71 years, Verda Murphy; two sons, Ted (Thelma) of Kaneohe, Hawaii, and Rod (Diane) Murphy of Snowflake; and four grandchildren, Cathy Murphy, Ian Murphy, Megan Murphy and Ronnie Murphy.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and one brother.   
    Donations may be made in his honor to RTA Hospice & Palliative Care, 1789 W. Commerce Drive, Lakeside, Ariz. 85929.
    Owens Mortuary of Snowflake is in charge of the arrangements.
