Ted Gallegos

Teodoro “Ted” Montoya Gallegos, 74, died suddenly on Saturday, May 3, 2008, at his home in Holbrook. The rosary service will be held at 7 o’clock tonight (May 9), with visitation beginning at 6 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, located at 212 E. Arizona St. in Holbrook. The funeral Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 10, at the church. Interment will be at the Holbrook Cemetery. A luncheon will be held at American Legion Navajo Post No. 37 following the inter-ment.
    Ted was born on June 8, 1933, in McNary, Arizona, to the late Teodoro Kline Gallegos and Gabriela “Gabie” D. Montoya Gallegos, who still resides in Holbrook.
    He attended Snowflake High School, graduating in 1952. He was a member of the football team.
    Ted owned the Exxon for many years before he went to work for the Arizona Department of Transportation until his retirement. He then went to work for Jack’s Union 76 until his most recent employment for El Rancho Cafe in Holbrook.
    Ted was proud that he was the Cinco de Mayo King for the Holbrook area.
    He loved his Arizona Diamondbacks, Phoenix Suns and Hon-Dah Casino.
    He was a beloved son, brother, father, nino, grandpa and great-grandpa. He had a great sense of humor, and was a friend to all, who will truly miss him.
    Survivors include the children of his first wife, Regina Ortega, including Darlene (Terrel) Brinkerhoff of Holbrook, Tony Padia of Phoenix and Donna Padia of Phoenix; the children of his second wife, Lupe Rocha, including Tammy Gallegos of Flagstaff, Anthony Gallegos of Holbrook, Gabriel Gallegos of Hol-brook, Roseann Gallegos of Mesa, Alex Gallegos of Holbrook and Lupe (William) Palmer of Flagstaff; 18 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Gilbert (Frances) Gallegos of Holbrook and Stanley (Alice) Gallegos of Holbrook; and a sister, Florence Trujillo of Holbrook.
    He was preceded in death by two sons from his first marriage, Chris Gallegos in April of 1993 and Eddie Gallegos in December of 2000; and two sisters, Sally Martinez and Helen Maestas.
    Owens Mortuary of Holbrook is in charge of the arrangements.
