Gordon Taylor Hendrix, 76, of Lakeside died on Tuesday, May 20, 2008, at a Phoenix hospital. Funeral services were held May 24 at the New Life Community Church of the Nazarene, with Pastor Larry Cornett officiating. Burial was at the Show Low Cemetery. Mr. Hendrix was born Dec. 6, 1931, at Columbia, S.C., the son of Walter and Viva (Dennis) Hendrix. He was raised and attended school in Columbia. Following graduation, he entered the U.S. Air Force and was a veteran of the Korean conflict, serving four years. He came to Arizona in 1952 while in the Air Force, and the same year he was married to Ella. After his enlistment he went to work for Civil Service as a printer at Williams Air Force Base, where he remained for 35 years until retiring in 1978. They moved to Lakeside in 1979, and he again worked as a printer for several more years. He enjoyed fishing, working on cars and reading. He was well known as a good storyteller. He was a member of the New Life Community Church of the Nazarene. Survivors include a daughter, Sue Van Donselaar and her husband Tom of Glendale; two sons, Stanley Hendrix and his wife Candy of South Carolina, and Milton Hendrix and his wife Rhonda of Taylor; a sister, Pat Fetner of South Carolina; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and his daughter, Stephanie. Black’s Mortuary of Show Low was in charge of the arrangements.
