Gus C. Crider

Gus C. Crider, 96, formerly of Holbrook, died on Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2009, in Walnut Ridge, Ark. Memorial services were held Feb. 2 in the chapel of Higginbotham Funeral Home in Walnut Ridge, with burial in Smithville, Ark.
    Mr. Crider was born Nov. 30, 1912, in Sitka, Ark., to Charles T. and Mary (Fooks) Crider.
    He moved to Arizona in 1947, and lived in Joseph City and Holbrook until November 2003, when he moved to Lawrence Hall Nursing Center in Walnut Ridge.
    Gus was a veteran of World War II, serving in Germany in the Army Signal Corps.
    He served as a volunteer member of the U.S. Selective Service Board for many years, and retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1975.
    He was a lifetime member of the Elks.
    Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Mae of Lawrence Hall Nursing Center in Walnut Ridge; one daughter, Paula Wilson of Alamogordo, N.M.; one son, C. Wayne Crider of Oak Harbor, Wash.; one granddaughter, Melissa Wilson of Alamogordo; one grandson, Charles W. Crider of Portland, Ore.; one great-granddaughter, Amanda Crider of Alamogordo; and one brother, Ted Crider of Lewisville, Texas.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Chester, Dexter and Russell; and one son, Louis H. Crider.
