Melvin Robert “Melstrait” Lewis Sr., 55, died on Easter Sunday, April 12, 2009, in Holbrook. The funeral service was held April 17 at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church in Greasewood. Interment was at the Greasewood Cemetery. He was born on Oct. 10, 1953, in Ganado to Eugene Lewis Sr. and Mary Lucy (Biah). He worked as an ambulance driver throughout his life. He also played the drums in a country-western band where he picked up the country-western style of dress. He was a great artist and enjoyed pencil sketching. He loved to ride horses and make people laugh. He truly was a joy to be around. Survivors include his children, Corinda, Lance, Melvin Jr. and Philamina Lewis; one brother, Eugene Lewis Jr.; four sisters, Charlene Scott, Marietta Pete, Marlene Pete and Cecelia Jimmie; and many extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by a grandfather, Blackwater Biah; grandmother, Annie Ruth Biah; his mother, Mary Lucy (Biah); and his father, Eugene Lewis Sr. Owens Livingston Mortuary of Holbrook was in charge of the arrangements.
