Ellen BurrageJuly 8th, 2009
Ellen Burrage, 80, passed away on Friday, June 26, 2009. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 11, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Winslow, with the Canon Rev. Norman C. Burke officiating. Interment will follow at Desert View Cemetery in Winslow. A viewing is planned from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday, July 10, at Greer’s Mortuary Chapel in Winslow. Ellen Darlene Burrage was born on March 3, 1929, to Charles and Meta Zahnley in Winslow. Her home in Winslow was only a few houses away from where she was born, and she really liked to laugh about not getting too far away. She lived a full and active life, and made many friends along the way. Ellen was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, where she served on the Altar Guild, and was a member of Eastern Star, where she held a variety of the offices. She started her career as a teachers’s aide in the Winslow Unified School District at Washington School, then worked as the library aide at Washington School for many years, where she loved reading to “her children.” She was also very proud of the fact that she had been a “Harvey Girl.” She loved doing miniatures with her friends. Survivors include her five children, Patty (Bob) Kent, Linda (Deke) Moore, Sandy Arroyos, Jimmy (Antoinette) Burrage and Bobby (Sheryl) Burrage; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; her most beloved sister, Zelda Lumbley; her brother, Charles (Edna) Zahnley; her cousin, Barbara (Emil) Nasser; and many close friends. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations be made to Susan G. Koman breast cancer foundation, any hospice organization of your choice or St. Paul’s Memorial Fund.
