Robert A. Spiering

    Robert A. Spiering, 81, passed away on Monday, Sept. 7, 2009, at his home in Snowflake. Funeral services were held Sept. 12 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Temple View Church in Snowflake. Burial followed at the Snowflake Cemetery.
    He was born Dec. 19, 1927, on a farm in Winthrop, Minn., to Alfred and Maria (Andersen) Spiering.  
    He entered the U.S. Air Force in 1950 at age 23, and was honorably discharged in 1971 as chief master sergeant.  He served during the Korean and Vietnam wars.  
    He had resided in Snowflake for 10 years, and previously lived in Las Vegas for 35 years.  
    He was an active member of the LDS church, Snowflake 10th Ward.  He was a bishop four times and in the Stake Presidency for the church.  
    He had and loved to keep a beautiful yard with flowers and trees.  
    He was a strong, independent, but yet a loving, kindhearted man who served his Lord in every way he could.  He is loved by all and will be missed always in our hearts; he’ll be watching over us from above.
    Survivors include his wife, Sharon Spiering; a sister; a nephew; four nieces; nine stepchildren; 33 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.  
    He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and two stepsons.
    Black’s Mortuary of Show Low was in charge of the arrangements.
