Mary Pickett

    Mary Pickett, 91, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2009, at the Olivia White Hospice Home in Flagstaff. Services will be held at 11 o’clock this morning (Oct. 16) at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Joseph City, with visitation one hour prior to the services. A graveside service will follow in the Joseph City Cemetery.
    Mary was born Feb. 20, 1918, in Joseph City to Joseph Hartley Turley and Joanna “Josie” McLaws.  Mary’s grandparents were original pioneers to Northern Arizona.
    She married Jack Roderick Pickett on Aug. 20, 1937, in Joseph City, and was sealed on July 30, 1974, in the Provo Temple.  Seven children were born to this family.  
    Mary was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. As a youth, Mary attended Joseph City and Holbrook High School.  She was a library aide at Holbrook and Page High School.
    She had been a P.T.A. president, and served as a Sunday school teacher.   
    Mary had lived in Page for the past 30 years, where and served in the Family History Center. She enjoyed history, reading, sewing, writing poetry, collecting rocks and genealogy.
    Survivors include her children, JoAnn Mosier (Hershel), Mariano, Andy (Linda), Jack (Lori) and Catherine Trudell (William); her son-in-law, Mariano Sanchez; her sister, Nina Adair; 18 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack; three children, Joyce Sanchez, Charles and Mary Jane Pickett, who died in infancy; her siblings, Walter and Georgia, and, by her father’s first marriage, Harvey, Hartley, Goldie, Sarah and Rhea.
    In memory of Mary, donations may be made to the LDS Perpetual Education Fund or the Olivia White Hospice Home, P.O. Box 997, Flagstaff, Ariz. 86002
    Norvel Owens Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.
