Veronica MedinaOctober 16th, 2009
Veronica Bernadette Serna Medina passed away on Friday, Oct. 9, 2009, in Flagstaff with her family by her side. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Holbrook, with the inurnment to follow at the Holbrook Cemetery. Veronica was born in 1967 to Hilario (Sonny) Serna and Elvira Gonzales Serna. She was blessed to have two wonderful children, Nathaniel Medina and Nicole Medina (Paul Saiz Jr.), and two very special grandchildren, Victor Saiz and Augustine Saiz, all from Holbrook. She also had two brothers Thomas (Frances) Serna and Michael (Margie) Serna; three sisters, Lily Spencer, Roberta “Isabel” (Eduardo Lopez) and Debra Serna; as well as nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Veronica enjoyed her family, friends, reading, camping, fishing and all activities dealing with young lives. She worked as a teacher for the Head Start Program for years, and she enjoyed her life as a teacher of very young minds. When she encountered the children in their later lives and they recognized her as “Teacher Veronica,” it gave her a great sense of pleasure. She often stated that as an educator it didn’t end in the classroom. Veronica remembered many if not all of her students. The love of educating extended every aspect of family and life. She will be missed, but having the opportunity to have her in our lives was the best gift ever. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Bertha Serna; her maternal grandparents, Julian and Flora Gonzales; and her paternal grandparents, Hilario “Iro” Serna and Clorinda Baca Serna. Owens Livingston Mortuary of Holbrook is in charge of the arrangements.
