Larry James LedfordDecember 9th, 2009
Larry James Ledford, 60, died on Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2009, in Sun City after a courageous battle with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. Born May 2, 1949, in Tucson to Clarence and Margaret Ledford, Larry graduated from Alhambra High School in Phoenix in 1967. On Jan. 26, 1968, he married Charlotte Linker. He and his wife maintained homes in Sun City and Snowflake. Larry remained an Arizona resident his entire life, retiring in 2003 from Fleming Foods, where he was employed as a warehouseman and driver for 35 years. He was a longtime member of the National Rifle Association and Teamsters Union. Larry had a thirst for adventure on or off the road, and will be remembered for his love of motorcycles, off road racing and travel. Nothing pleased him more than taking a long road trip on his motorcycle or in “grandpa’s big truck” to visit family, friends or a scenic part of the country. He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Charlotte; son, Duane Schell of Phoenix; two daughters, Charma Dice of Aloha, Ore., and Shar Nelson of Peoria; brother, Wayne Ledford of Snowflake; five grandchildren, Seth, William, Melissa, Chalease and Aja; and four great-grandchildren, Kayanna, Keylee, Elijah and Isaiah. He was preceded in death by his mother, father and sister, Betty Bowman. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Larry’s name to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation (pulmonaryfibrosis.org) or to the National Rifle Association (nra.org).
