Gwendolyn ‘Peggy’ LisitzkyMarch 17th, 2010
Gwendolyn “Peggy” Lisitzky, 76, a longtime resident of Holbrook, passed away in Flagstaff Medical Center on Wednesday, March 10, 2010, following a courageous 10-year battle with cancer. A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 27, in the social hall at the Holbrook Masonic Temple. Peggy was born in Roy, N.M., on April 21, 1933, and lived in Winslow during her childhood. She moved to Holbrook as a teenager when her father, Ben Pearson, became Navajo County sheriff. She graduated from Holbrook High School in 1951. Peggy retired from Lisitzky Investment Company in 2005. Other positions she held in the community included librarian at the Holbrook Public Library, business manager for the Holbrook Public School District, title company escrow officer and legal secretary. Her joys in her retired years included spending time with her sweet Sassy cat; visiting with her children; traveling the world with her daughters; and playing Bridge and visiting with her dear friends, many of whom tirelessly helped in numerous ways during her battle with cancer. Peggy also loved to fish and camp, and could sit all day long at the edge of a lake with her fishing line in the water. This past Christmas, she felt blessed to have her children and their spouses gather with her at a lakeside cabin in Pinetop to celebrate the holidays. Peggy was beloved, and will be greatly missed by her daughters, Evelyn Lisitzky and Kris (Graham) Wontner; son, Charles Lisitzky (Zandra); mother-in-law, Marian Lisitzky; grandchildren, Ann (Willie) Fugere and David Lisitzky; great-grandaughter, Isabella Fugere; sister, Colleen (Roy) Wedell; brother, Wes Pearson (Lois); sister-in-law, Sharon O’Dell; several nieces and nephews; her beloved cat, Sassy; and many, many wonderful and caring friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Gladys Pearson; and brothers, Lowell Pearson and Gervis Johnson. If you would like to honor Peggy’s life, in lieu of flowers, please send donations to Holbrook First Step Workshop; or to your favorite animal rescue organization and/or adopt a homeless pet.
